Carlos Zambrano Signs

I was glad to hear that the Cubs signed Carlos Zambrano, to a one year $12 million dollar contract. Both sides claimed they did not want to go to arbitration where the Cubs would spend time downplaying Zambrano's value. The Cubs offered $11 million while Zambrano's agent wanted $15 million. Did not the Cubs win by having the final number be more near to their number than Zambrano's? Why won't Zambrano have the same ill feelings for the Cubs that he had if it would have gone to arbitration? Either way, the Cubs should get a long term deal in place by Opening Day.

Ugh

An ugly way to lose a basketball game like Marquette did to Louisville last night. The fact that a guy hits a 25 foot three does not bother me, especially when their guard brought the ball up the floor and then dribbled parallel to the baseline, before he made the past. Other things bothered me. 3 huge missed free throws in the last minute, one each by the sophomore trifecta. McNeal doubled his mistake by missing the front end of a one and one. Marquette should have blown Louisville out, especially with Padgett on the sidelines for so long with foul trouble and they didn't. As Dennis Green said, "We let them off the hook."

Much has been made over Jerry Smith's reaction after the game. He took off his jersey and ran to the opposite end of the floor/ bench and almost knocked over a MU fan sitting on that end of the floor. I really don't see anything wrong with that. We encourage students to come up with clever chants and to make fun of the other team. We can't get upset if an opposing player gives it right back, it would be hypocritical to demand this. The other team deserves to show as much class as we do as fans.

Spring Training
I'm excited again, although I don't know if I ever haven't been excited. One of the more interesting subplots has been Felix Pie and Alfonso Soriano hanging out all of the time. This is leading to a Pie July call up and Jones trade for some kind of help in July. I'm not guaranteeing it, but I could definately see it happening at this time.
